Full CASCO: what comprehensive coverage includes and when you really need it

Full CASCO в Молдове: полное страховое покрытие автомобиля от ДТП, угона, пожара, стихийных рисков и других событий по условиям полиса.

Full CASCO is a type of CASCO insurance that provides the broadest possible range of coverage. In Moldova, CASCO is voluntary insurance, so the exact scope of protection is determined by the terms of each insurer. When comparing offers, it is important to look beyond the package name and check the covered risks, exclusions, deductible, repair conditions and additional services.

CASCO protects your own vehicle rather than your liability towards other road users. Depending on the contract, the policy may cover road accidents, theft, fire, hail, flooding, falling objects, actions of third parties and other events. The CASCO page on Superpolis.md offers FULL, PREMIUM and CASCO with a deductible, which differ in the level of protection and additional conditions.

What Full CASCO means

Full CASCO is a policy that provides the broadest available insurance coverage within a specific insurer’s programme.

On Superpolis, CASCO FULL is presented as an option for maximum vehicle protection. It includes a broad range of risks as well as additional services, such as ongoing support and assistance in the event of an insured incident.

The main purpose of Full CASCO is to reduce the number of situations in which the vehicle owner has to cover significant losses out of pocket.

This type of coverage is especially relevant if:

  • the vehicle is new or expensive;
  • the car was purchased on credit or lease;
  • the vehicle is used every day;
  • the owner does not want to bear significant expenses after an accident;
  • protection against several different categories of risks is needed at the same time.

However, even the word FULL does not mean that the policy covers absolutely every possible situation. Exclusions and limitations still remain part of the insurance contract.

What comprehensive coverage usually includes

The exact list depends on the insurer, but broad CASCO coverage may include:

  • road accidents, including situations where the insured driver is at fault;
  • theft or loss of the vehicle;
  • theft of individual parts or equipment, subject to the contract terms;
  • fire and self-ignition;
  • hail, flooding, lightning and other natural risks;
  • falling trees, branches, snow and other objects;
  • unlawful actions of third parties;
  • other types of damage expressly covered by the policy.

Before taking out the policy, it is important to check not only the list of risks but also how exactly they are defined in the contract. For example, damage only to tyres or wheel rims is generally not treated as a separate insured event. Compensation may be available if other parts of the vehicle are damaged together with the tyres or rims. Conditions relating to windows, additional equipment and repairs should also be checked separately.

Which risks should be checked separately

The available range of risks depends on the insurance company’s programme.

When comparing offers, it is worth checking separately whether the following types of protection are included:

  • road accidents;
  • theft;
  • fire;
  • natural disasters;
  • hail;
  • water damage;
  • falling objects;
  • vandalism;
  • theft of equipment;
  • window damage;
  • towing assistance.

The main question to consider is which events could create the greatest financial risk for your particular vehicle.

How the deductible affects coverage

The deductible is the portion of the loss that the policyholder pays themselves.

For example, if the deductible is €200 and the damage amounts to €1,000, the insurer may compensate €800, subject to the terms of the contract.

The higher the deductible, the lower the policy price may be, because minor losses remain partially or entirely the responsibility of the vehicle owner. When choosing insurance, it is therefore important to check the deductible separately: a higher deductible may reduce the insurance premium but increase your own expenses if an insured event occurs.

When comprehensive coverage makes sense

Full CASCO is most often worthwhile when the potential financial loss for the owner could be significant.

For example:

  • the vehicle is new;
  • the car has a high market value;
  • the vehicle is financed through a loan or lease;
  • repairs to bodywork or electronic components are expensive;
  • the car is used for work every day;
  • the owner does not want to take on the risk of major expenses;
  • the vehicle is often parked outdoors;
  • protection is needed simultaneously against accidents, theft, natural risks and actions of third parties.

On Superpolis, FULL is recommended primarily for owners of new or expensive vehicles who want the broadest possible protection.

If the vehicle is essential for work or everyday life, FULL can also be compared with CASCO PREMIUM. This option includes FULL coverage and, depending on the selected package, may also provide a replacement car while your vehicle is being repaired.

How to compare offers from insurance companies

Check:

  • the exact list of covered risks;
  • the insured amount;
  • the deductible;
  • exclusions;
  • repair conditions;
  • rules relating to windows, wheels and equipment;
  • territory of coverage;
  • availability of towing assistance;
  • additional services;
  • the procedure for notifying the insurer of an insured event.

Since June 25, 2026, before a general insurance contract is concluded, the consumer must be provided free of charge with an insurance product information document. It contains the main covered and excluded risks, limitations, territory of coverage and the customer’s obligations. This document is useful when comparing several offers. cnpf.md

FAQ

Does Full CASCO cover absolutely everything?

No. Even broad CASCO coverage has exclusions and limitations. These should always be checked in the specific contract.

Can I choose only theft and fire coverage?

It depends on the insurance company. Some insurers may offer certain combinations of risks, while others work only with predefined packages.

What is the difference between FULL and CASCO with a deductible?

FULL describes the scope of the coverage, while the deductible is the portion of the loss that the vehicle owner pays themselves. A broad insurance policy can also include a deductible.

Is FULL better for a new car?

Often, yes, especially if the vehicle is expensive and the owner wants to minimise their own expenses in the event of significant damage. However, the final choice depends on the contract terms and budget.

Can CASCO be arranged for a used car?

Yes. CASCO is also available for used vehicles. The terms depend on the car’s value, age and condition, as well as the insurer’s rules.

What is more important when choosing a policy: the number of risks or the deductible?

Both should be assessed together. A broad list of covered risks may be less useful if the deductible is too high for your budget, and vice versa.
