What to Do Immediately After an Accident?

The first minutes after an accident are the most important. Act in this order:

  1. Stop and turn on your hazard lights. Do not leave the scene of the accident.
  2. Check for safety — verify there are no injured people. If needed, call an ambulance: 112.
  3. Call the police — official documentation is mandatory. Number: 112.
  4. Document everything — photograph the scene, damages, vehicle positions, and licence plates of all parties involved.
  5. Exchange details with the other driver: full name, insurance policy number, phone number.
  6. Call us — a Superpolis specialist will advise you directly at the scene: 060 00 44 84.
  7. Notify your insurer within 48 hours of the incident.

What Documents Are Required?

  • Police report or certificate
  • Driving licence
  • Vehicle registration certificate
  • Technical inspection certificate
  • Insurance policy (RCA, CASCO, or other)
  • Photos of the accident scene and damages

Steps by Insurance Type

For an RCA (Motor Liability) Insurance Event

If you are at fault: notify your insurer within 48 hours and provide the full document set. The insurer must inspect damages within 5 working days and complete payment — within 15 days for property damage, 10 days for bodily injury.

If you are the victim: contact the at-fault driver's insurer. If the at-fault driver is unidentified or uninsured, contact BNAA (Moldova's Insurance Policyholders Protection Fund, www.bnaa.md).

For a CASCO Insurance Event

Call the police and document the accident, theft, or damage officially. Notify your insurer immediately. Do not move or repair the vehicle before consulting with the insurer — this is essential for a correct claim settlement.

For a Green Card Insurance Event (Abroad)

Notify the local police immediately and obtain official accident documentation. Present your Green Card policy to the other party. If you are the injured party — call the phone number printed on the reverse side of the Green Card; if your policy is in electronic format, the number can be found by scanning the QR code on the document. From that point, responsibility is taken over by the Green Card Bureau of the country where the accident occurred — they will handle the settlement and advise you throughout the process.

For a Travel Health Insurance Event (Abroad)

Call the Assistance Centre number listed on your policy — it operates 24/7. Provide your policy number, validity period, situation description, and country. If you paid for treatment yourself, keep all receipts and documents: the insurer will reimburse expenses after your return.

What if the at-fault driver fled the scene?

Call the police and document the accident. If you have CASCO — contact your insurer: compensation is paid regardless of whether the at-fault driver is present. If you only have RCA — contact BNAA (Moldova's Insurance Policyholders Protection Fund, www.bnaa.md).

Within what timeframe must I notify the insurer?

For RCA — within 48 hours of the incident. For CASCO — as soon as possible, within the timeframes set out in your contract. The sooner you notify, the simpler the process.

Can I repair the car before the insurer's inspection?

No. Repairs before the insurer has inspected and documented the damages may be used as grounds for rejecting the claim.

What if the insurer refuses to pay?
