Driving abroad from Moldova? The Green Card is mandatory insurance without which you won't cross the border in most European countries. Buy online through Superpolis: choose your coverage zone and duration, compare offers from trusted insurers — and receive your policy by courier or electronically.
What Is the Green Card (Carte Verde)?
The Green Card is a mandatory international motor third-party liability insurance. It is valid in 42 member states of the Green Card system (including Moldova) — covering damage caused to third parties in accidents that occur outside Moldova: property damage, bodily injury, and death.
The Green Card and your local RCA insurance are separate documents. RCA is valid only within Moldova. To drive legally abroad, you need the Green Card.
Who Needs a Green Card?
The Green Card is mandatory for all vehicles leaving the Republic of Moldova. Without it, you will not be allowed to cross the border — into European countries or Ukraine. The policy can be purchased online in advance or before departure.
- Individuals travelling abroad with a personal vehicle
- Companies whose vehicles cross the border
- All vehicle owners regardless of trip purpose — tourism, business, transit
Green Card Policy Types Available in Moldova
Choose one of two options depending on your destination:
Green Card for Ukraine
Valid exclusively in Ukraine. Less expensive than the full European option — ideal for frequent crossings or short visits to Ukraine.
Green Card for All Countries (Full Coverage)
Valid in all Green Card system member states: all EU countries, Turkey, Georgia, Morocco, and others. The current list of countries is available at www.cobx.org. Required for travel to Western Europe, holiday destinations, and business trips.
How Much Does the Green Card Cost in Moldova?
Green Card prices are calculated individually. Use the calculator on Superpolis to get your exact price in seconds.
What Affects the Price?
- Coverage zone — Ukraine only or all countries in the Green Card system (full coverage costs more)
- Duration — from 15 days to 1 year (longer policies offer better per-day value)
- Vehicle type and category — car, truck, motorcycle
- Chosen insurer — rates vary between companies
Tariffs are set in euros and converted to Moldovan lei at the official NBM rate on the date of issuance.
What Does the Green Card Cover?
- Third-party property damage caused outside Moldova
- Bodily injury or death of other accident participants
- Legal costs related to claims settlement
Liability limits are determined by the legislation of the country where the accident occurred. Claims are handled by the Green Card Bureau of that country. Any damage exceeding local limits is covered by the policyholder.
What Documents Are Needed?
- Vehicle technical passport (talon)
- Owner's personal details
